In The House

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

We’re in the house as of Friday, and now we’ve begun the long process of unpacking and getting everything ready to go. Here is a picture of the house that my mom took:

Wiiiiiii!

Ok, even though it has a very silly name that is already inspiring toilet humor and jokes, I am going to get a Nintendo Wii when it comes out.  Here are some good links (mainly from Engadget) on coverage of the items mentioned at this year’s E3:

Yes, I’m geeking out.  Can you blame me, though?  This is the most innovation from a video game system that I’ve seen in a long time.  I’m truly excited about this platform and its potential to rock.

Closing

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

We close on the new house Friday.  Two days from now.  At least, that’s the current plan.  Originally it was to be Tuesday.  Then Thursday.  Now Friday.  I predict that sometime in the year 2007 we might get to close on the house.

Feh.  I’m tired.

The Moving Experience

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

So I said no more angsty posts about moving… well, I lied.

Moving was a relatively painless process:  Lori, her parents, and I loaded up a U-Haul truck and prepped the house for moving.  We stayed at a hotel on Sunday night (because everything was packed) and Monday morning we went to the title company to close on the sale of our house.  Signing all the paperwork to complete the sale went by quickly and we were out of there before 10:00 AM.  After that, we picked up the animals and the U-Haul, and we drove to Moore.

The drive itself was nice, but what happened during the drive kind of sucked.  I got a call from our mortgage company saying that they hadn’t completed some of the paperwork needed to close, and that we’d have to close on either Thursday or Friday.  This really upset me because we first came to the mortgage company two months ago about buying the house and they had plenty of time to get everything together.

In a panic, I ended up griping them out over the phone three times.  We had really planned on being able to close on Tuesday so now we’d have to impose on my mom longer, pay additional days for a U-Haul truck, and try to get Lori’s start date at her new job pushed back to Monday (if possible).

It is very frustrating and I’m finding it hard to restrain myself from writing something I’ll regret later.  I won’t go into details, but I’ve never dealt with a mortgage company that was so unorganized and seemingly disintrested in completing a deal on time.  It also kind of sucks because the company we went through is family of a friend, so now my trust in recommendations is a bit shaken.

I think for now I just need to calm down and keep the bigger goal in mind: getting into the house of my proverbial dreams (for that is what it really is.  If you’ve seen the house, I think you’d agree).

Oh, last thing:  Since I’ve sold my house in Arkansas and am still waiting to close on my house in Oklahoma, does that make me homeless? ;)

Close to a Return to Normalcy

Friday, May 5th, 2006

I’m very close to being able to return to a state of normalcy, whatever being “normal” actually is.  This weekend is the big final push to move stuff out of our old house in Arkansas.  Monday we are scheduled to close on that house, and then Tuesday we are scheduled to close on our house in Moore.

It will be great to be in my own house again.  Don’t get me wrong, staying with my Mom hasn’t been bad.  It’s been kind of nice getting be around my family again, but since I’ve had a taste of independence for five years its really hard not being the master of the domain again.

I can’t wait to have everything moved in and set up so we can start the next chapter of things.  I’m tired of the stress of living in a different state than my wife, and I’m tired of dealing with the paperwork and pure crap that you have to go through in order to sell a house and buy another.  It is tiring work and I’m just about at my limit.  Fortunately it is just about finished.

I’ll try to post more frequent updates, and I’ll start posting more interesting content here.  I’m sure no one really wants to read angsty posts about moving and such.
