Painting
Sunday, June 26th, 2005Right now every muscle in my arms are throbbing and tired. The past two days Lori and I tackled the exterior of our composite siding house with gallons of paint, with the help of Lori’s parents. We woke up early on Saturday morning to an 84 degrees sunny day and started painting. We continued until about one in the afternoon when we got the initial coat on with brushes (it’s hard to get in the siding grooves with rollers).
Lunch was fun. All four of us went to Buffalo Wild Wings and played NTN trivia while eating wings. After that and a brief trip to Wal-Mart for supplies we started painting again. We got the second coat nearly complete when the inevitable happened.
It started raining.
Thinking quickly, we moved the painting supplies into the garage and checked the weather forecast. The storm had popped up right over us and wasn’t moving. I have my suspicions that the reason it rained is only because we decided to paint. Declaring a rain-out, we quit until the morning so the walls could dry.
This morning we assessed the rain damage, and it was isolated to one wall. Thankfully we were able to repair the paint quickly and we put a third coat on everything, then did the trim. We called it a day at one again, because it started clouding up like it did previously. Ironically, it hasn’t rained yet as I write this.
We still need to finish painting the chimney. By the time the primer dried, it was too hot to be running around on the roof (at least for normal people like me). We also have to finish the main front door and paint the back of the house.
