Easter Sunday, 2005

I really need to get off my butt and update this blog more often. I’ve really been neglecting it lately, and that’s a shame. Writing down random thoughts to the world can be pretty therapeutic.

Since I last wrote, I’ve been working pretty hard. A lot of my time has been devoted to working, then coming home and relaxing. I’m still trying to adjust to the new schedule. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it, but we’ll see how things are come Monday morning.

Yesterday I met up with a bunch of my former co-workers from Arkansas.Net and we played a game of poker at John’s house (John was my manager at Arkansas.Net). I haven’t played no limit hold ‘em in over a year so I was pretty rusty and it showed. Last time I played I finished in the upper half, winning my money back, but this time I was out pretty quick. I think I’ll start playing online on the free tables to practice up before we play again.

Yes, I did get a Mustang, but I haven’t taken any pictures of it other than the one from my phone posted on my moblog. The reason is that when we’ve been getting home from work the sun has been going down and it has been rainy nearly all the time since we’ve bought the car.

Anyway, the car is pretty cool. We got the V6 package, not the GT with a V8, but it still is very sweet. We got the tape on the side of the car that says, “Mustang”, a spoiler, chrome-colored steering wheel and dash, leather seats, a 6-CD changer, and a power driver’s seat so it isn’t the basic package. Me likey the Mustang. And that’s a crazy statement for someone who has for so long disliked Ford and all it stands for.

I made fresh, homemade pizzas tonight to celebrate Easter. Heh. Don’t ask why. Making pizza crusts without the proper mixer and a pizza peel is difficult. My arms are still sore from all the kneading I had to do, but it was worth it in the end. Homemade pizza is always better than delivery, AND Digornio’s.

Happy Easter, faithful readers! Now it’s time to eat my fill of Peeps and drink some tasty ice tea!

Gimme a W!

I’m two weeks into my new career at Wal-Mart ISD (Information Systems Division). So far it has been pretty intense; there is a lot of information to learn/assimilate all at once. Thankfully it has been an enjoyable process so far and things are going well. I’m on a team with some really smart people, and my boss is a really cool guy. In fact, my boss reminds me a LOT of Heathe’s dad, if his dad was bald and a little bigger. It’s uncanny. Sometimes I want to call him Dave instead of Max. Seriously.

I guess I shouldn’t be, but I’m really surprised by the level of professionalism that exists at Wal-Mart. Things that need to be done get done, and without much delay. There is an aura of pride that permeates the very air. The work process just screams “quality”. It makes me pretty happy to finally be in a place like this.

Enough about Wal-Mart. :)
Today Lori and I took our dogs Chloe and Butter to a local park so they could burn off some energy. It was a nice day: 70 degrees and clear skies. The park itself has a small trail following a stream leading to the Pillars of Strength II Geocache, one that Lori and I found early last year.

The dogs did good, although they were very excited about getting out of the house to explore. I was leading Butter on her leash, and Lori led Chloe. Chloe seemed a little nervous about things and started barking when we get to the park, but she calmed down after a few minutes and started taking things in stride.

We ran around some of the trails, explored, and finally made our way to the stream down a pretty big slope. Thankfully there are some concrete steps to make it easier, and the dogs had no problems navigating them.

There is a bridge that goes across the stream to the other side, but it is a metal bridge with a rectangular mesh formation, so it isn’t solid. Butter got on the bridge and I guess she didn’t like how it felt on her feet so she quickly turned around. So all 4 of us decided to follow the side of the stream a little bit, and the dogs really enjoyed it. Butter really wanted to get to the other side so she even hopped in the water, being the silly water dog she is.

After that we ran back up he hill to the main park area and ran around a bit more. I was starting to get pretty tired and I’m sure Lori was, so we went back to the car and went home. I think I’ll start using the dogs to help me get my cardiovascular exercise in instead of going to the gym; it’s a lot more fun this way and afterward the dogs are tired enough to sleep the rest of the afternoon. Woohoo for peace and quiet! :)
